MATCH DAY for FELLOWSHIP

What a roller coaster of a day! Making the decision on our ranking list for Fellowship was much more stressful then we had anticipated.  We went back and forth between staying here at Mayo and University of Utah.  Our two biggest worries were; 1) what was best for the family and 2) what was best for Spencer's career.  We ended up choosing U of U after much prayer and contemplation-- and when match day came we got our first pick!! University of Utah Cardiology program here we come!

Match Day: Tanner, Kate, and I drove to the hospital to pick Spencer up so we could receive the e-mail together on where we matched to.  I was doing fine until I went past The Mayo Clinic-- and suddenly the flood gates were open.  I couldn't stop crying. I love this place to much.  We have been so blessed here. We have received top notch health care, we have the kindest neighbors, and the most amazing friends.  Our children have thrived here and have wonderful friends and teachers.  I could go on forever on all the ways our family has been blessed.  I know this was the right place for our family for this short time in our lives and I thank the Lord for helping us get here.

I picked up Spencer and he looked at me and said, "are you okay? Are you going to make it?" I nodded yes only because I couldn't speak and drove to Panekoken-- one of our favorite breakfast restaurants.  We got to our table and were 2 minutes from receiving the e-mail when I looked over Spencer's shoulder and saw a man collapsed on the table.  I quickly told Spencer and he got up and helped the un-conscience man to the floor.  For the next 15 minutes Spencer and the owner of the restaurant performed CPR until the paramedics arrived.  It was the first time I have seen anything like that.  It was a reminder of whats important in life. I'm not sure he made it-- he may have passed away right there but it left us feeling a little more grateful for all our blessings.  We waited for a little bit before we opened the letter and were pleased to see the U of U on our email.  Later that day one of the associate directors called Spencer and congratulated him…. it looks like Spencer would have matched to Mayo if we would have put them first.  But I know our prayers were answered and that Utah is where we need to take our family for our next adventure.

We put together a picture puzzle for the boys.  They had to put it together to figure out where we were headed.  We had a bunch of clues on one side and the State on the other.  They are pretty excited, but also super sad to say good-bye to their friends.  It is heart breaking to see them genuinely sad about moving and saying good bye to their friends.  There are so many awesome kids around this place.
