Endocrinologist appointment

Every three months Benson has an appointment with his awesome doctor, Dr. Christensen. This appointment was a little more frighening then our usual appointments. They checked his A1C which is a blood test that measures average blood glucose over the past 2 to 3 months. I literally was having an anxiety attack waiting in the room for Dr. Christensen to walk in and give us the results. After the longest 30 minutes of my life, he walked in, looked at the monitor which read his A1C and said, "Wow, I can't believe how good his A1C's are". Relief. Breathe. Ok, I might survive now. His average is 160 which is 5 points lower than what our target is (low is good!). He was pretty impressed with Benson and said he is doing way better then expected! So, I walked into the appointment probably pale as a ghost, and left with one big goofy smile. As soon as I got in the car I broke down in tears. Talk about an emotional roller coaster. Good thing Benson was the only one with me to witness it--it was pretty pathetic!

I am so proud of Benson and you, I can't even imagine doing all that you do for him and Reece every single day. The thing is- you kick butt at it. Benson is doing great. I don't understand diabetes but am trying to learn, so I don't understand any of that doctor talk but way to go!! You are such a great mommy and Benson is such a trooper. I am so happy about his good results.

An average of 160 is AWESOME!! Kudos to you for all your hard work. I completely in every way understand the anxiety of getting that test done. I too have cried of happiness over good numbers. It's amazing how this disease changes your emotional highs and lows. I'm a basket case when I take Carter to the endocrinoloist's office. My brain is mush by the time I leave! I'm usually secretly thinking in my head, "please don't think I'm a bad mom, please don't think I'm a bad mom! I'm doing the best I can!" Congrats on 3 months truly well done!
