Benson update

Benson had two appointments this week so I thought I better give an update.

1) Diabetes: although he didn't have an endo appointment this week I wanted to express how excited Spence and I have been because his numbers have been outstanding these past two weeks. It's funny because every time I see a number in the low 100's I'm shocked--and it keeps happening over and over again! It's enough to make my day! The only problem was at night he was going low--meaning not a lot of deep sleep for mama. I turned his basal down and now he's going too high. I switched it again tonight so let's hope for good numbers.

2) ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat): The beginning of Feb. Benson failed his hearing test at his Audiologist appointment (his language development was super delayed--he pretty much only mumbled when he talked). His ear tubes were completely full of water, meaning his hearing was impaired. So we were sent to the ENT. She asked three questions which were:
1. Does he have a running nose often? Yes, I have said many times that he was born with a runny nose. Even when he's not sick he has one.
2. Does he snore? Yep, I think it's adorable.
3. Does he cough alot? Yes, he will have coughing fits for days with no fever or any other symptoms.

She checked his Ears, nose, and throat and gave us the good news--he has a minor problem easily fixed with Claritin and nasal spray. Easy enough for me! I'll take it! His ears were still full of liquid because he apparently has environmental allergies (dust, mold, etc) which are causing his pharynx to swell blocking the ears from draining (hence the runny nose--it's a good escape route). We'll try the nasal spray and Claritin for 2 months and reassess. Hopefully his ears are clear so we can avoid tubes in his ears.

3)Pediatrician-2 year check up: He's healthy and doing great. His weight is in the 67% percentile and is developing well. Dr.Kertesz has treated us so well this year. We will miss her.

I'm really going to miss the clinics at Children's Hospital. It's been a true blessing to our family to have them so close. It's been a good year for us to live here next to Children's. The boys have received the best care and I have received all the support needed to take care of them. :)

I am so excited to hear all the good news about Benson. I can tell that you are a great mother and he wouldn't being doing as great as he is today without you. You are truly amazing. When do you move back to Boise, we will have to get together sometime when I am down for a visit.
